Hello and Happy New Year my lovely friends and supporters.
I haven’t made any New Year’s resolutions this year. I am just trying to be happy with who I am, faults and all. I am so blessed so I am just trying to make sure I remember that, daily.
“To be alive, to be able to see, to walk, to have houses, music, paintings – it’s all a miracle. I have adopted the technique of living life miracle to miracle.”
― Arthur Rubinstein
I read this quote someone shared on FB and it has been floating around my head ever since. So, I am going to do my best to live like this … day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute. Life is a miracle. Living is a miracle. To be alive is a miracle. The longer we get to do that the more miraculous it is. This is never to be forgotten but so often is. I am going to try to live miracle to miracle. I am going to do my best. (This is starting to sound like a resolution isn’t it HA HA? Oh well … so be it, it’s a good one.
Miracle To Miracle is the my first painting of the year. SOLD
A REMINDER:

The two paintings that I taught for last year’s PYHAS course was received very well. I had so much fun seeing the results from both lessons. The paintings that were created were absolutely beautiful.
Some things people said about my lessons:
“This is a fabulous lesson. I am trying to get the courage up to try it. So many beautiful paintings are being created and watching Maria Pace-Wynters paint and draw is delightful! Today I will at least get out some inks and see what colors I have. Finish watching the lesson And look at all your beautiful work again !”
“Almost passed up on this lesson because I was a little intimidated with the acrylic ink. But I LOVED it! What an awesome lesson Maria Pace-Wynters! Thank you so much!”
I hope you enjoyed the paintings I did for PYHAS2019, it was such a great experience for me and I learned so much. I just wanted to give you gentle nudge to get your early bird price for next years class.

“Always listen to your HEART. The wisdom of your heart is the connection to your authentic power – the true home of your spirit”
― Angie karan
Listening to you heart is always the answer. Your head can get you in so much trouble… and it lies! It tells you all sorts of mistruths and can send you in a tailspin for no reason. As an artist, it took me a long time to learn this. As soon as I started listening to my heart and not my head, my art became authentic and I the more I listened to my heart, the easier it became to quiet the voices in my head.

12”x16” mixed media/ encaustic painting on wood. The sides are 1.5” deep and are painted red.
This painting will be available in the upcoming online auction Handmade And Holiday Auction. More information HERE
I used this painting to do a short demo of the acrylic paint that Deco Art sent me. I don’t use acrylic paints in tubes very often so this was a little out of my comfort zone. I really do love my acrylic inks but sometime I wonder if they are a bit of a crutch. So maybe this was a nice little push for me to experiment. I did end up reverting back to my inks but I AM a mixed media artist so playing with a variety of mediums within one piece is not unusual. In fact, I ended up adding some encaustics to the final piece (not shown in video) because I felt the painting just need something more. All in all though, I am happy with the results.
So Deco Art sent me my primary colours, Red, blue and yellow, and a tube of black and white. They also sent my an extender, a matt medium and some varnish.
I have to say, I thought the coverage was pretty good. It is really hard to get a yellow to have much coverage at all but this one was not bad, and I loved the actual hue. This goes for the red they sent me too, that was a beautiful colour. Absolutely gorgous red orange.
I also like the way they dried, nice and matt, not shiny.
The acrylic medium was great, as good as liquidtex or Golden, which is what i usually use.
The extender …. nope… I just don’t like extenders I think. I am too impatient. I want stuff to dry faster, not slower. It isn’t anything against this brand, I just don’t think extenders are for me.
The only thing I would say that I didn’t like was the tubes of paint are difficult to open and the paint kind of squirted open when you did finally manage to open them. My daughter, Scarlett, had the same problem when she tried them. I often squeeze my paint into jars because I really hate tubes so this remedy this but we did end up wasting paint.
NOOOOO! I HATE WASTING PAINT! HA HA!
This was a nice little push for me to experiment with traditional acrylic paint but I did end up reverting back to my inks half way through. I AM a mixed media artist so playing with a variety of mediums within one piece is not unusual for me, in fact, I ended up adding some encaustics to the final piece (not shown in video) because I felt the painting just need something more. All in all I am happy with how this piece turned out.
AND that is my little review.
Thank you Deco Art!

“Deep In Their Roots, All Flowers Keep The Light” (quote from Theodore Roethke)
8″x16″ mix media painting on wood. The sides are 1.5″ deep.
The last few months have been such a struggle. I have fallen out of step with myself. I am not sure if it is my age (turned 51 this year) or my kid’s age (13 and 16) or that I feel like a huge transformation is coming. Maybe it is noticeable in art, maybe it isn’t. I can’t tell because I am too close to it. My girls are becoming so independent; these amazing, opinionated, goal oriented people. They are not mini me’s or mini Chris’, they are their own people. They have their own likes, their own thoughts, their own style …I mean, they always did but it has become so much more apparent as of late. They are getting ready to leave me, they are preparing themselves for schools they want to go to and cities they want to live in. I am happy for them but I am sad too. I just wish that they could stay this age a little longer. I know that I have always wished this, at every age, but I want them to stay with me a little longer. I think that is why I found it really hard to work this summer. I wanted to spend all of my time with them, drinking in all of this special togetherness that we have right now. I know how fleeting this time is. I try to live in the moment, but I’ve never been good at it. I know we have a bond that will never break, I know that red string can go on stretching forever, I know all of these things. I also know that as they transform themselves, I too am going to have to transform myself. These are the growing pains that I am feeling right now. That is how life works. That is the beauty of being alive. I will transform, I will heal and I will transform again.
Registration is now open for PYHAS 2020. I will be doing something very different in this lesson, using another artist’s work to springboard an original artwork in my own style.

I hope you enjoyed the painting I did last year for PYHAS2019, it was such a great experience for me and I learned so much. I just wanted to give you gentle nudge to get your early bird price for next years class.
