There is something, for me, about yellow socks/stockings. They are hard to pull off without looking like big bird but, I had a pair when I was 16 and I used to wear them with my Mum’s Honeymoon suit that she got in Liverpool in the sixties before my parents emigrated to Canada. Truly a dream for a girl in the eighties hanging out with ‘The Mods’. I don’t think that I looked like a bird, unless, of course, you are thinking about the English slang for ‘girl’.

Up in the loft again today. I have a head cold so I thought I would just have some fun. No pressure, no commissions, just me up here painting. Nice.

Circus Girl In Progress…

photophotophotophotophotophotophotophotophoto
So here is another Circus Girl painting, I am trying to coax myself back to the canvas. This break has been too long and not helpful. I am not feeling inspired. I know that Picasso was right when he said he often found inspiration while working but lately when I have tried to start a painting my eyes get heavy and my arm feels like a wet noodle. I instantly feel like crawling under my duvet and going for a long slumber. ARGGGG. I hate that. I wonder why I have to be almost possessed with inspiration and unable to stop even if I want to (or my family wants me to) or a total mindless, uncreative slug. Hmmmm? As my grade nine English teacher used to say ‘ponder, ponder, ponder’.

Anyway, I think I need a huge dress up photo shoot with the girls.
And yes (DAD), I know that I really need to finish writing Circus Girl. She talked to me today, she said “Hurry, I am growing up …look at how I am looking at you.” She also said ” I love all my fans”( see how she is smiling at you?)

This is a 4″x6″ mixed media painting on canvas. I thought you might find it interesting to see the progress of a painting.

Just something a little different in the attempt to get myself back into painting mode. It feels like ages! Imogen starts school tomorrow, grade one, and I am looking forward to getting back to some sort of schedule. I am sad at the same time because I realize that she is going to be gone all day and I am really going to miss her. My Imogen, six and in grade one …I can’t quite believe it!photo

Block Party Face Painting

Our block had a party this Sunday. It was a lot of fun. The kids had a blast. I did some face painting. I had several ‘beard’ requests, also rainbows, zombies and a Jack Sparrow. Here are my girls-

Ruby

Ruby

This is Ruby. She is seven months old. She was a delight to paint. I think a lovely gift from a daughter and son in law who are moving away to a loving mother/grandmother.
